Actors Rep is thrilled to announce an exciting one-day workshop with Peter Zazzali, the director of our next production, The Fever (October 12th, 13th, 15th, 19th, 20th and 22nd at Konrad Café and Bar).
The workshop, titled ‘Psychophysical Approaches to Acting’, is for ages 16 and up and will take place on Saturday, October 1st, from 10am till 4pm, with a one-hour lunch break. (Lunch is not provided.) The location is to be confirmed.
In the workshop actors will learn to use their minds and bodies as expressive instruments in service of a text. Using a variety of techniques, we’ll explore the ideas of Linklater, Laban, Berry, Strasberg and Stanislavsky, as well as eastern techniques (tai chi chuan and yoga) in a vigorous five-hour workshop designed to help actors become fully present onstage. Participants will leave the session with multiple tools for activating their imaginations, emotional lives, voices and bodies onstage.
Dr. Zazzali is an internationally recognized actor trainer and stage director whose credits include the National Theatre School of Ireland, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and numerous theatres and universities in the US. He is currently on faculty at the University of Kansas, where he serves as the Department of Theatre’s lead acting teacher and director. His recent book, Acting in the Academy: The History of Professional Actor Training in US Higher Education, focuses on acting pedagogy and practise in America (Routledge Press 2016).

Hello,
I am a keen actress and will soon move to Luxembourg. Do you have regular opportunities to join classes or even audition for productions? (I’ve seen a couple of blog posts about this but don’t know how regularly it happens).
I am more comfortable acting in English than in French.
Josie
Hi Josie,
Thanks for asking!
We offered two sets of classes so far this year (January – March and March – May) and plan to offer a third set in the autumn. We have an all-day workshop coming up on June 17th at the Atelier of the Théâtre National du Luxembourg (TNL) — ‘Impulse Training’ with Cologne based actor, director and acting, improv and comedy trainer and coach Hans Kieseier. The blog post about it will be up within a couple of days of this reply. Details are currently on our Facebook page (which is updated more regularly than the website and blog).
As for auditions, we do hold auditions from time to time. When we need to cast a specific role or roles, we will hold auditions locally as well as sometimes in London. We did both for our productions of ‘The Goat Or, Who is Sylvia?’ in 2013 and for last year’s production of ‘Do You Want to Know a Secret?’
We also held general auditions in January of this year and hope to do so again, either at the end of the year or early in 2018.
With general auditions we aren’t necessarily looking to cast a specific role (although that can be part of it), but rather to get a sense of who might be available for future productions as we plan ahead to what we’re doing next.
We are also sometimes looking for people to assist with productions — assistant directors, stage managers, designers, etc.
Check out and like our Facebook page and you’ll get the most up-to-date information about what we’re doing.
